Melinda Sanders has been an attorney with Quinlivan & Hughes, P.A. since 1994, and a shareholder since 2001.
Melinda practices in the areas of employment law, civil litigation, non-profit law, and estate planning. As Chair of Quinlivan & Hughes’ Employment Practice Group, she represents and advises employers on employment law issues, including hiring and firing, leaves of absence, discrimination, reasonable accommodation, performance management and contracts. Melinda also investigates claims of discrimination and harassment, and educates employees, human resource professionals, and supervisors on various employment laws.
In addition, Melinda has represented employers in Minnesota Department of Human Rights and Equal Employment Opportunity Commission matters, unemployment compensation claims, and state and federal litigation.
Melinda frequently makes presentations on a variety of employment and estate planning topics. She and Ron Brandenburg present monthly “Breakfast Seminars” on various employment law and human resource topics. In addition, for over ten years Melinda has taught a four-hour course entitled “Keeping Your Employer Out of Trouble” as part of the St. Cloud Area Chamber’s Supervisor Development Certification Program. Melinda has also been a presenter at the Employment Law Institute, for Central Minnesota Society for Human Resource Management, the Workforce Center and Breakfast with the Best. Melinda educates audiences throughout the community on basic estate planning tools and strategies.
In addition, Melinda is also very involved in the community. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the United Way of Central Minnesota and the Board of Directors for the Center for Nonprofit Excellence and Social Innovation. She also recently served as Chair of the St. Cloud Area Chamber of Commerce Board, and as an appointee of Governor Pawlenty on the Judicial Selection Commission for the Seventh Judicial District. She also serves on the Chamber’s Business Development Council and the United Way’s Personnel Committee. Melinda has been a member of the Downtown St. Cloud Kiwanis Club for over 11 years, serving as its President from 2003-2004. She also served as Chair of the Emerging Leaders Forum from 2008-09, when she led a campaign to raise $50,000 for the new St. Cloud Public Library. She also served as President of the Stearns/Benton Bar Association, as a Director on the WASCOSA Board and the ILICIL Board, and as a member of the Boys and Girls Club Personnel Committee.
