Biography

I joined the firm in 1994 and became a Shareholder in 1998. I was the first woman to serve as the firm's Chief Executive Officer and have been on the firm's Board of Directors during the periods from 2003 to 2010, 2014 to 2019, and again starting in January 2023, serving as the Chief Financial Officer. I am active in various professional organizations and have held leadership roles in national, state, and local organizations, including serving as President of the Association of Defense Trial Attorneys (2024-25) and serving as the Minnesota State Chair. I am a Past President of the Minnesota State Bar Association and the Minnesota Defense Lawyers Association. I am a member of the Minnesota Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), an AV Rated attorney by Martindale-Hubbell, a Minnesota Super Lawyer, and was named one of the Top 50 Women Attorneys in Minnesota in 2014, 2021 and 2024. One of my greatest honors was being recognized as a 2021 Attorney of the Year for Outstanding Service to the Profession.

My practice focuses primarily on civil litigation, particularly in employment, government liability, and professional liability. I represent individuals, government entities, and corporations in all types of litigation process, including in state and federal district and appellate courts. I counsel employers on policies and procedures, conduct employment-related investigations, and represent employers in discrimination charges filed with state and federal agencies. I frequently lecture to colleagues, employees, supervisors, and human resource professionals on employment-related matters such as hiring, firing, discipline, workplace behavior, employee evaluations, the Family and Medical Leave Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and anti-discrimination legislation. I also represent individuals and businesses in professional liability, personal injuries, premises liability, wrongful death, and insurance coverage matters.

I serve on the American Arbitration Association's no-fault arbitration panel and 2023 was appointed by then Minnesota Supreme Court Chief Justice Lorie S. Gildea to represent the Sixth Congressional District on the Legislative Salary Council, the body responsible for setting the salaries for Minnesota Legislators. Additionally, I previously served on the Minnesota Supreme Court’s Civil Justice Reform Task Force in 2010 which was responsible for studying the Civil Justice Forum Report and civil justice reform initiatives in other jurisdictions and recommending changes to the Supreme Court for more cost-effective and efficient civil case proceedings. My community involvement includes coordinating the Apollo High School Mock Trial Invitational Tournament which I have done since
