(ST. CLOUD, Minn.) – Four attorneys at Quinlivan & Hughes have been recognized among the best attorneys in Minnesota by Super Lawyers. Dyan Ebert, Steven Schwegman, and Cally Kjellberg-Nelson have been named 2021 Super Lawyers and Jessie Sogge has been named a 2021 Rising Star.

Each year, no more than 5 percent of the lawyers in the state are recognized as Super Lawyers and no more than 2.5 percent receive the Rising Star honor. Super Lawyers, a part of Thomson Reuters, recognizes lawyers who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement.

Ebert practices civil ligation, with a focus on employment and government liability, insurance coverage, and general casualty law. Ebert also handles appeals both at the state and federal levels. Ebert served as the President of the Minnesota State Bar Association through June 2021 and still serves as Secretary of the Association of Defense Trial Attorneys. Throughout her 25 year legal career, Ebert has served in a variety of leadership positions in other local and state organizations, including the Stearns-Benton Bar Association, the Seventh District Bar Association, and the Minnesota Defense Lawyers Association.

Schwegman practices in the areas of medical malpractice and professional liability. He has been a sought-out speaker on general liability, medical negligence and tort claims both in Minnesota and nationally and was also named a Minnesota Attorney of the Year in 2005. Schwegman has extensive trial experience, having tried in excess of 130 jury trials involving a wide range of claims, including catastrophic personal injury, automobile, construction, hospital liability, and medical malpractice. He was also a member of the International Association of Defense Counsel Trial Academy faculty at Stanford University School of Law.

Kjellberg-Nelson focuses her growing practice in civil litigation, with an emphasis on employment and governmental liability. This is her second year being recognized as a Super Lawyer. Previously, she earned the Rising Star honor in 2017, 2018, and 2019 and was awarded the 2013 Deb Oberlander Award from the Minnesota Defense Lawyers Association for her leadership, professionalism, skills, and advocacy in the practice of law. She joined Quinlivan & Hughes in 2008 as a law clerk before becoming an attorney in 2009. In 2017, she was appointed to the Minnesota Defense Lawyers Association Board of Directors. Kjellberg-Nelson was elected a shareholder in January 2018.

Sogge focuses her practice in the area of insurance defense litigation, with an emphasis on auto, premises liability, and medical malpractice cases. This is her second year being recognized as a Rising Star. Sogge previously received the 2012 Deb Oberlander Award from the Minnesota Defense Lawyers Association for her leadership, professionalism, skills, and advocacy in the practice of law. Her unique blend of experience has provided her with considerable trial experience. Sogge believes strongly in volunteering and furthering the profession of the law. She has volunteered and held leadership positions in the Minnesota Women Lawyers Association, the Minnesota Defense Lawyers Association, and the Stearns-Benton Bar Association amongst others. She is currently the secretary/treasurer of the Seventh District Bar Association, sits on the Minnesota State Bar Association Council, and chairs multiple committees. Sogge was elected a shareholder in January 2021.

The Super Lawyer selection team uses a patented multi-phase process to identify worthy candidates each year. This includes a statewide survey of lawyers, an independent research evaluation, and peer reviews by practice area.

Established more than 100 years ago, Quinlivan & Hughes ranks among the oldest and largest law practices in Central Minnesota. The full-service law firm has growing legal teams in the areas of employment law, business law, government law, insurance defense, trust and estate planning, and general litigation.
